Residents living near W. American Canyon Road and Danrose Drive in American Canyon have been advised to stay indoors as police investigate a shooting near the Safeway supermarket at that intersection. Napa County officials issued a warning about police activity in the area approximately five minutes before 5 o’clock in the evening.
Authorities urged individuals to avoid the intersection of Danrose Drive and American Canyon Road. The American Canyon Police Department later confirmed that officers were investigating a shooting in the vicinity. However, details about the incident remained scarce.
The victim of the shooting, identified as Omari Elijah Lyles, 30, was found with at least one gunshot wound in the 200 block of Tapestry Lane in the northeastern part of the city. American Canyon police Lieutenant Nicol Dudley announced Lyles’ identity on Thursday, revealing that Lyles, a resident of Richmond, had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Dudley stated that investigators were withholding further information due to the ongoing investigation.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation and is actively pursuing leads to identify a suspect. On Thursday, Lyles’ body was officially identified by the county coroner.
