A man who was found dead in Lehigh County after a massive police search has been identified as the victim of a homicide.
David Hittinger, 37, of Slatington, was pronounced dead Wednesday night by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
The coroner is not revealing the location of death at this time and an autopsy will be carried out on Friday.
The Lehigh County Coroner and police were spotted on Thursday along the D&L Trail in Slatington.
Investigators were also spotted searching an old quarry behind the Northern Lehigh High School located approximately a mile away from the trail.
“Right now all I can tell you is we have an active investigation,” state police spokesperson Trooper Nathan Branosky said Thursday morning.
Slatington police Chief Greg Winokur posted on social media later Thursday that the incident remained under investigation and the public was not in danger.
“There is an ongoing police investigation being conducted by the Pennsylvania State and Slatington Borough police departments in the area,” Winokur said.
“Due to this, you will continue to see an increased police presence. There is no threat to the community.”
A press conference has been scheduled for noon Friday by Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan to reveal more details on Hittinger’s death.
