Aayden Hayes was a 13-year-old student of Bellevue Middle School who was shot and killed by another teen, 15-year-old De’Anthony Osasosifo.
Hayes was fatally shot Wednesday in the shooting at Red Caboose Park by Osasosifo, who was a student at James Lawson High School this past year.
Hayes’ 16-year-old sister, also a James Lawson High student, was injured in the shooting.
The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. at Red Caboose Park in Bellevue after there was a fight between two female teens in a parking lot at the popular park.
Other teens joined the fight and sometime during the altercation, Osasosifo pulled a gun and fired shots.
The 15-year-old was charged with criminal homicide after he was arrested for the shooting, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
“We are saddened by the tragic killing of Aayden Hayes and shooting of his sister last night in Bellevue,” said Sean Braisted, a spokesperson for Metro Nashville Public Schools.
“Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and the school communities grieving at this time. Our Student Support Services team will be providing grief counseling for school communities directly impacted by this tragedy at our Promising Scholars sites.”
