Who is Willis Trueblood Jr? Suspect Arrested for Hit and Run Crash that Killed Ellie Sims

Willis Trueblood Jr., 18, has been arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) in connection with a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a student, Ellie Sims, on Monday.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening at the intersection of Pensacola Street and Lorene Street, where Ellie Sims was struck by a car while using a crosswalk near the university campus. Despite efforts from witnesses and passersby to render aid, Sims tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Following preliminary information obtained from witnesses, TPD identified the driver of the vehicle as 18-year-old Willis Trueblood Jr. Trueblood fled the scene after the collision, but with the assistance of the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), law enforcement located both the vehicle and Trueblood Jr. Less than two hours after the incident, Trueblood Jr. was apprehended in southwest Tallahassee without further incident.

Trueblood Jr. now faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. TPD is committed to enhancing pedestrian safety through proactive measures and community engagement, reminding drivers of the importance of adhering to posted traffic signals to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians.
