A Surrey lady who was killed during what her family thinks to have been a home invasion is accused of second-degree murder by an Ontario man with a lengthy criminal past. At the time of Tori Dunn’s death, Adam Troy Mann was reportedly under two probation orders for prior offences. He had also just been released after being found guilty of breaking one of those orders by having knives.
On June 16, the evening of the attack on Tori Dunn, the 40-year-old was placed under arrest. The victim’s relatives verified that Tori was attacked while dozing off on the couch following her and her fiancé’s return from a birthday dinner. Little information regarding Dunn’s death has been made public by the police, other than the fact that they were summoned to a home on June 16 in Surrey’s Port neighbourhood, close to the 9800 block of 182A Street, where they discovered the 30-year-old seriously injured.
Later, she passed away at a hospital. The case has sparked concerns about the bail and probation systems in British Columbia as well as the extent to which dangerous criminals are allowed to leave jail after repeatedly breaking rules intended to keep the public safe. Mann is charged with two violent crimes within weeks of each other, one of which is the murder of Dunn. The other act is said to have occurred while Mann was on probation for another offence.
Three weeks before Dunn was slain, Mann, an Ontario native, was accused of aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing of a Surrey lady. According to the RCMP, the incident happened after witnesses noticed the suspect and the victim having some sort of conversation.
