Suicide; Michael “Mike” Guzman, Texas A&M Dir. of bands died after sexual assault allegations

Michael “Mike” Guzman, the director of bands at Texas A&M, died on Friday, May 31, 2024, after allegedly shooting himself. Mike committed suicide after a woman named Jackie Rodriguez accused him of sexual assault. Jackie talked candidly about her experience of sexual molestation with Katherine Needleman. She detailed in her story how Mike, her abuser, coerced her into paying out-of-state tuition at the university he attended so he could keep assaulting her.

Jackie Rodriguez Allegations

Jackie Rodriguez graduated from Southwest Miami High School in 2012, then from 2008–2011, and her band director was Michael Guzman. Jackie said he groomed and slept with her when she was underage. Their sexual relationship lasted from when she was 15 years old to 18, maybe 19 years of age. While he was at Southwest, Mike groomed and slept with numerous girls in the high school band, not just her. Bad things started when she was 15 with him and ended around when I was 18.”

Jackie revealed she know many of these women personally on Facebook, and they may be reading this in full support, or just as afraid and wanting to hide that part of their life.

Jackie Rodriguez GoFundMe

William Beamesderfer launched a GoFundMe campaign in support of Jacqueline Rodriguez. The organizer claims that the money being raised will assist Jackie in recovering the tuition that she was wrongfully forced to pay and will also pay for any legal costs she may incur in her pursuit of justice. Jackie has been a strong voice for other women who Mike Guzman has wronged, encouraging many of them to speak up. Her perseverance and commitment have had a big influence on the music business, both as a musician and an instructor.

The whole public is asked to assist Jackie in her battle with her abuser and her road to recovery. She should be able to manage her legal costs, pursue her Master’s degree, and utilize the money for whatever that would help her get better and move forward.
