Shooting at HIP Mall; Harlem Irving Plaza Norridge, IL, Suspect arrested after smash-and-grab burglary

Shooting has occurred at hip mall Norridge, Illinois. After a smash-and-grab theft at a jewelry store at a mall in the northwest suburbs on Saturday, police launched an investigation. According to authorities, the break-in occurred at a Kay Jewelers location in Norridge at the Harlem and Irving Mall. Another name for the shopping center is the Harlem Irving Plaza, or “HIP.”

In March, there was another smash-and-grab theft at a different jewelry store in the same mall. According to Norridge police, a suspect in the most recent theft is being held. According to authorities, no firearms were discharged, and no shoppers are in risk.

A 28-year-old male was shot on Wednesday shortly after 6 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Harlem Avenue in the Dunning area of the city, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The 28-year-old is said to have gotten into a verbal fight with another man while driving close to the Irving Plaza in Harlem. After getting out of his car, the suspect shot the 28-year-old once in the car before getting back in it and driving away. The 28-year-old male was shot once in the arm, but he managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital and was not badly hurt.
