Howard County Police Department said a man has died by suicide after shooting and killing his wife of many years, their daughter, and their daughter-in-law in a home in Elkridge, Maryland. A fourth victim is currently hospitalized in critical condition on Thursday. The tragic incident happened on Thursday, 30 May 2024.
What Happened In Elkridge, Maryland?
According to law enforcement agencies, a 61-year-old man shot his 57-year-old wife, their 25-year-old daughter, and their 33-year-old daughter-in-law. Howard County Police Department was dispatched to a home at the 6900 block of Norwood Ferry for a domestic-related incident report. Arriving officers located an entire family suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. Three victims were pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident.
Victims and Suspect Identified
Police identified the suspect as Nayyar Abbas Syed, he was pronounced dead at St. Agnes Hospital: his wife Syeda Aalia Nayyar, their daughter Syeda Fatima, and their daughter-in-law, Alizey Fatima died at the scene. Their 31-year-old son Muhammad Ali Hamza is in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. They were from Pakistan.

Alizey Fatima was the wife of the suspect’s son Muhammad Ali Hamza. Alizey Fatima was a Software Engineer at NetSol Technologies Inc. She graduated from Lahore College for Women’s University and Punjab University College of Information Technology.
Police Investigations
Howard County Police say the suspect’s 3-month-old granddaughter was in the home during the incident but not harmed. Law enforcement agencies say she is currently receiving a wellness check at the children’s hospital and will be placed in a family member’s custody. Law enforcement agencies say the incident is a murder-suicide incident. Police say the suspect lives away from the address and no break-in was suspected.
