Michael S. Holt, a judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina, has passed away. The news was shared via social media, but no cause of death has been provided. Holt, from Hartsville, South Carolina, died unexpectedly.
Holt was appointed to the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court on February 3, 2021. Prior to this, he served as a family court judge for the same circuit, a position he held from May 2008 after being elected by the South Carolina General Assembly.
He earned his undergraduate degree in history from the University of South Carolina in 1992 and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1996.
Before his judicial career, Holt worked at the law firm of the late Senator Ed Saleeby in Hartsville, gaining significant legal experience. He also served as mayor of Hartsville from 2005 to 2009, where his leadership skills and understanding of community issues were developed.
Holt’s combination of legal practice, judicial experience, and municipal leadership contributed greatly to his role as a judge.
