A DOT worker in Iowa was killed in a crash on Interstate 80 near Neola on Thursday.
Matthew Dickerson, 36, of Neola, was struck and killed by a semi-truck attempting to pass traffic near mile marker 13 between Underwood and Neola.
Dickerson was standing at the rear of an asphalt trailer being pulled by a DOT pickup truck that was parked with arrow lights to notify drivers.
Authorities responded to a collision on Interstate 80 near mile marker 13 between Underwood and Neola around 9 a.m.
An early investigation revealed that a semi truck was traveling eastbound on I-80 in a line of cars where two lanes narrowed to one for road maintenance.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a pickup truck belonging to the Iowa Department of Transportation pulling an asphalt trailer had parked with arrow lights to notify drivers of the left lane closure ahead.
The semi involved in the crash changed lanes and attempted to pass traffic when it struck Dickerson who was standing at the rear of the asphalt trailer.
Iowa State Patrol said the 36-year-old died at the scene.
Another DOT employee who was driving the Iowa DOT vehicle, a 35-year-old man, suffered injuries in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
