She was announced dead by the school through a publication released that said ” The Adams State University campus community mourns the loss of graduate student Kayla Harris.”
How did the incident happen?
A man suspected of a shooting that left five people dead and critically wounded a teenage girl in North Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday night died by suicide after officers tracked him down on Tuesday morning, police reported. Police responded to an apartment just after 10 p.m. on Monday following reports of a shooting. They found two wounded women, later pronounced dead, aged in their early 40s and late 50s.
Detectives also discovered a 13-year-old girl with critical injuries at the apartment. She was taken to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. In a nearby apartment, officials found three more victims: two women in their mid-20s and a man in his early 20s. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the five victims. Attempts to reach the coroner’s office for comment on Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful.
Police identified Eric Adams, 47, as a suspect in the killings. On Tuesday morning, North Las Vegas police received a tip about Adams’ location. Officers from the Criminal Apprehension team found him, and he “was armed with a firearm and fled into the backyard of a residence,” police said.
Officers issued verbal commands for Adams to drop his weapon, but he ignored them and died by suicide. The Las Vegas police Force Investigation Team is assisting with the investigation, North Las Vegas police said. No further information was available from police on Tuesday afternoon. More details of the “overall investigation” will be released later, police said. The motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.
