John James Frye Obituary, Death – Visitation & Funeral Service

John James Frye, of East Norriton, and a former long-time resident of Cheltenham Township, passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by his family on Monday, January 29, 2024. He was 52 years old. Born December 3, 1971, in the Juniata section of Philadelphia, he was the son of Theresa (nee Miraglia) Frye, and the late John Jacob Frye. John was the best friend and soulmate of his beloved bride Tamara (nee Avallone) Frye.

John was a graduate of North Catholic High School, Class of 1989. John graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy, and served in Cheltenham Township. He worked his way through the ranks and served as Police Chief. John retired after 26 years in Cheltenham. He was currently serving as Police Chief in Schuylkill Township. John was a member of the Montgomery and Chester County Police Chief’s Associations as well as serving as a member of the Eastern Montgomery Swat team for many years.

John’s greatest love and passion was for his family. He was a dedicated father and would been seen at every one of his children’s events standing on the sidelines or in the stands cheering them on. John even coached softball and baseball when his children played. He was a sportsman himself. He played softball for many years with his best friends, competed in natural body building competitions, enjoyed golfing whenever he could, and enjoyed watching sports live, especially the Phillies. John enjoyed spending time together with his wife, Tammi, sharing their love for attending concerts, NASCAR events, and traveling, especially to Aruba. John created a home filled with love where everyone could feel comfortable and celebrate together with his annual “July 3rd” BBQs, holiday parties, and frequent random gatherings. John was a compassionate and honorable man who served his community his entire life and cared deeply for the women and men he served with throughout his career.

In addition to his wife Tammi and his mother Theresa, John is survived by his two children; Justin Nicholas Frye and Jordan Nicole Frye, his sister Tina Frye, along with brothers; Christopher and Kevin Frye.

Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration on Sunday February 4, from 6 PM to 9 PM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000, and again on Monday February 5, from 9 AM to 10:50 AM at Visitation BVM Church 190 N. Trooper Rd. Norristown. His Funeral Mass will begin at 11 AM at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
