Principal At Bergenfield High School James Fasano has sadly passed away. He died on Thursday 27th June 2024 surrounded by his beloved family. He was announced dead through a post that reads “Dear Students, Parents and Staff: It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the death of our beloved high school principal who has been part of the fabric of our community over the last 59 years. Our high school will never be the same without him.” The cause of James Fasano’s death has not been revealed.

James Fasano grew up in Bergenfield, graduated from our school district, and served our school district as a coach, teacher, assistant principal, and principal over the last 30 years. Throughout his career, he lived and breathed Bergenfield High School and always put his students’ needs first. We were fortunate to have such a loving, caring, and dedicated principal leading the learning at our school. His passion for ensuring students had access to a rigorous curriculum and outstanding extracurricular programs was unmatched. His commitment to his students and staff was second to none, and he was an exceptional role model for both our students and staff.

Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Fasano, Bergenfield High School experienced a remarkable transformation. During his tenure in 2010, the school soared over 100 spots in the high school academic rankings, setting a trajectory of excellence that continued to ascend. This remarkable progress earned Bergenfield High School a place in US News and World Report’s Best High School Rankings for eight consecutive years.
