Fatal Joplin crash death of Jermaine Bingham – Obituary
The driver involved in a deadly crash on I-44 in Joplin has been identified as 51-year-old Jermaine Bingham from Bixby, Oklahoma. Authorities have notified his next of kin. Bingham was operating a semi-truck for Saia Motor Freight Line, LLC at the time of the incident. The Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team is still investigating the crash, with more details expected as the investigation continues.
The crash occurred at 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday when Bingham’s tractor-trailer, which was pulling two smaller trailers, veered off the road to the right, striking a large section of guardrail. The vehicle then collided with the north support of an overhead sign for the westbound lanes, causing extensive damage. Bingham was pronounced dead at the scene.
The interstate was initially closed for six and a half hours before reopening, though the exit ramp at Rangeline Road (Exit 8) remains closed.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is working on repairs, including replacing the damaged guardrail. The investigation by the Major Crash Team is ongoing.
