The Geneva Community High School is in mourning following the tragic passing of freshman swimmer James Oliver. James, a beloved member of the school’s swim team, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. His death came after a battle with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) stroke, which he suffered on Friday, December 8, after swim practice.
The school community was informed of the sad news by Principal Tom Rogers on Monday morning. James had been in critical condition since the stroke, and his passing has deeply affected his family, friends, and the school community.
