On Monday evening, tragedy struck as a heavy work truck accident claimed the life of Jackson David Parker, a 25-year-old resident of Fayetteville. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sivertsen Road and Halltown Road, situated north of Autryville, prompting a swift response from the Clement Fire Department.
First responders arrived to a grim scene where a 2014 Hino truck belonging to Machine & Welding Supply lay overturned, its cargo of industrial gases spilling from multiple breached tanks. Despite the efforts of emergency crews, Parker, the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Trooper Hall’s preliminary investigation, the Hino truck was traveling south on Sivertsen Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, it veered off the roadway. The vehicle subsequently overturned and crossed a ditch before coming to rest upside down, a stark and devastating sight for the responders on scene.
In addition to the Clement Fire Department, responders from the Autryville Fire Department, Wade Community Fire Department, and City of Fayetteville Fire Department all mobilized to manage the hazardous materials spill and secure the accident site. The tragic incident marks Sampson County’s tenth fatal collision of the year, underscoring the ongoing risks and consequences associated with traffic accidents, especially those involving industrial vehicles and hazardous materials.
As investigations continue into the actual cause of the crash, authorities will work diligently to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the accident. Questions surrounding factors such as speed, road conditions, and potential mechanical issues with the vehicle will likely feature prominently in the investigation.
