He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post shared on Tuesday 25th June 2024 that reads “I wanted to share a few words about a publishing colleague who died yesterday. You may know Gary Urda, the president of sales at Simon & Schuster.” The cause of his death was not mentioned.

Gary Urda is the Senior Vice President of Sales at Simon & Schuster, a role he has held with distinction, leveraging over 20 years of experience in the publishing industry. Prior to his current position, Gary served as VP, Director of Distributor Sales and Retail Marketing at S&S, Inc., and held the role of Director of Sales at Lightning Source. His extensive background and expertise make him instrumental in overseeing all sales operations for Simon & Schuster’s US trade business.
Gary Urda earned his MBA in Business from Lehigh University College of Business and holds a BSBA in Marketing from Villanova University. He is a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame. In his capacity at Simon & Schuster, Gary reports directly to Jonathan Karp, who serves as President and CEO of Simon & Schuster, Inc. Gary collaborates closely with key executives including Dana Canedy, who holds the position of Senior Vice President and Publisher, David Snow, VP of Human Resources, and Kevin Hanson, President of Simon & Schuster Canada.
His strategic leadership and deep industry knowledge contribute significantly to the ongoing success and innovation within Simon & Schuster’s sales operations. He will be deeply missed by all.
