Tragic Boating Accident on Gasconade River Claims Two Lives, Leaves Three Injured
A boating accident on the Gasconade River near Pointers Creek in Osage County resulted in the deaths of a 30-year-old man from Owensville and his 7-year-old daughter on Sunday night.
Reven Newbound was navigating a 2002 Gatorboat with seven passengers when it struck a root wad, causing the vessel to crash into a rock bluff. The impact claimed the lives of Newbound and his daughter, while his wife, Samantha Newbound, sustained serious injuries. Three children—a baby boy, a 4-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old girl—were also seriously injured.
Another passenger, 21-year-old Taylor McClure from Bland, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. All victims were transported to University Hospital for medical attention.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report, all children were wearing life jackets, while the adults were not. The Patrol’s Water Division is currently investigating the incident.
