A renowned Berlin, CT resident and experienced technical director at ESPN has died, according to Sports Video Group. Dean Ellington served in a behind-the-scenes role at ESPN for over twenty years. He has been a member of the College GameDay crew for a long time and has worked as a remote operations producer and lead technical director for the NFL Draft for over 15 years.
Dean Ellington, a University of Hartford alumnus worked at multiple local news stations before joining ESPN in 2008. Subsequently, he served as a studio technical director for prominent events such as Super Bowls XLIII to LIII and XLVII to XLIX. He also worked on-site in Rio de Janeiro for ESPN’s coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, The Masters, Ryder Cup, the NBA Finals, and various other events. He is survived by his spouse, Therelza, and two offspring.
“We’re all heartbroken, When I think of Dean Ellington, one word stands out: kindness. From the moment he started on SEC Nation, Dean showed us what real leadership looked like through his acts of kindness. He was incredibly talented, a true role model, and a dear friend. My heart goes out to Therelza and the entire family,” SEC Network coordinating producer Baron Miller said in a tribute.
“Whenever a new technical person started on our crew, it was Dean who taught them,” Get Up host Mike Greenberg said while remembering Ellington on air Thursday morning. “Whenever anyone had a question, it was Dean who answered. He will be greatly missed.”
