West Des Moines, Iowa, is grappling with the tragic loss of Dominic Allan Snyder, a 24-year-old technical engineer serving in the Army Reserve 411 Engineer Company. Dominic, who recently returned from a 10-month deployment in the Middle East, passed away on December 12th, 2023, in a heartbreaking incident reported as suicide.
Born on September 24, 1999, in Burlington, Iowa, Dominic Snyder was not just a dedicated soldier but a vibrant individual with a passion for life. He completed his high school education and, in 2016, embraced his faith in Jesus Christ, undergoing baptism. Dominic actively participated in Work Camp trips with First Christian Church and contributed to a mission trip to Haiti.
Described as an individual with an old soul, Dominic’s interests spanned various topics, including cars, futból, and music. He had a profound love for food and travel, always seeking new adventures. Known for his quick wit, sarcasm, and charm, Dominic effortlessly connected with people, forming meaningful friendships. His deep affection for his siblings, Christian and Aliya, defined his family bonds.
Dominic’s commitment to service extended beyond his family, as evidenced by his role as a technical engineer in the Army Reserve 411 Engineer Company. His recent deployment in the Middle East showcased his dedication to his country and left a lasting impact on those around him.
Dominic is survived by his parents Dustin and Megan Snyder, brother Christian Snyder, sister Aliya Snyder, paternal grandmother Marsha Snyder, maternal grandmother Janet Schupback, aunts, uncles, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and great-grandmothers.
Visitation for Dominic Snyder will be held from noon until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, with Pastor Scott Collier officiating. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Crossroads Church. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
