David Carey Death News: Member Of The Young Republicans, David Carey Sadly Passed Away
J. David Carey, a 71-year-old Cedar Rapids resident, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Monday, March 25, 2024, after a brief illness.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m., there will be a visitation at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
A later date will be set for the planning of a celebration of life service.
On November 14, 1952, J. David Carey was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dorothy Carey and John Carey were his parents.
His entire family not only contributed financially but also played a significant role in the founding of the Cedar Rapids Community Theater.
David’s father was performing in a play in Grant Wood’s art studio, where David would eventually live, and his aunts were heavily involved in the production of Playtime Poppy.
After attending Arthur and Franklin schools up to 1970, he graduated from Washington High School in 1970.
He made his acting debut in the play Auntie Mame by Cedar Rapids Community Theater when he was a small child.
In addition, he took part in other performances while he was in high school.
He was particularly fond of calling himself a “theatre jock.” Amazingly, he was a member of the Young Republicans in addition to The Gambling and Gourmet Society (which involved a lot of gambling but little cooking).
After graduating from high school, J. David spent the summer riding his bike around Europe with his friends before starting college at Iowa State University.
He chose to major in biology in order to realize his dream of becoming a television star like Jacques Costeau.
However, he soon found that studying science was not as exciting as performing, so he changed his major at the University of Northern Iowa to theater (with a minor in biology).
After completing his studies, he joined a popular improv comedy group that gave performances all throughout Cedar Rapids.
Richard Barker, Nina Swanson, Tim Boyle, and others were among his fellow members.
Furthermore, he belonged to the Post-Script Ensemble, whose job it was to involve the community in the Community Theater.
