Urschel Laboratories Machinist Daniel Kohler of Valparaiso, Indiana has sadly passed away. On Monday 24th June 2024, he died in a tragic accident leaving behind his beloved family and friends. Daniel Kohler was born on December 20, 1999, to Timothy and Donna (Marvel) Kohler. He grew up in a loving family environment, filled with support and encouragement.
How did the accident happen?
On Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 3:51 PM, Porter County Police received a report of a collision involving a semi-truck (dump truck) and a motorcycle on State Road 8 at Baums Bridge Road, according to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office. The initial investigation, along with witness statements, revealed that the motorcycle was traveling east on SR 8, while the semi-truck was traveling west on SR 8, both approaching the intersection with Baums Bridge Road. According to the driver of the semi-truck, he veered left of the center line to avoid rear-ending an unknown SUV that had failed to yield and entered the semi’s lane of travel on SR 8.
As a result of this evasive manoeuvre, the semi-truck entered the eastbound lanes and struck the motorcycle. Tragically, the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather more details and determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
Daniel Kohler Education and Career
A 2018 graduate of Morgan Township High School, Daniel was known for his dedication and hard work, which led him to earn an associate’s degree from Vincennes University. His academic achievements were a testament to his determination and passion for learning. After completing his education, Daniel began his professional career as a machinist at Urschel Laboratories. His colleagues admired him for his skill, precision, and strong work ethic. Daniel’s commitment to excellence in his work was evident to everyone around him.
In 2022, Daniel experienced a significant milestone in his spiritual journey when he was baptized and became a member of the First Church in Hebron. This new chapter in his faith was shared with his beloved wife, Katie, strengthening their bond and shared values. He found enjoyment in many activities that reflected his adventurous and vibrant personality. He loved skateboarding, finding freedom and thrill in the sport. Snowmobiling was another favorite pastime, allowing him to embrace the winter landscapes and the exhilaration of speed.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 1st at 10:00 am at First Church 800 Country Square Plaza, Hebron, IN. Burial will follow at Adams Cemetery in Morgan Twp.
