Conestoga Lockdown; Male walking outside with a gun, large police presence

UPDATE: Lockdowns have been removed at the Doon campus of Conestoga College and three schools in Kitchener, Ontario. The 200 Old Carriage Dr. neighborhood is home to Doon Public School, Pioneer Park Public School, St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School, and the Doon branch of Conestoga College. According to police, there have been complaints of a man spotted carrying a rifle outside these buildings.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) advised locals to avoid the area and to remain indoors. Authorities closed off surrounding roads and trails, but they have now reopened them and said that there is currently no known threat to public safety.

But according to the police, the inquiry is still underway. Additionally, a Brantford Police K9 unit vehicle was spotted in the neighborhood on Wednesday morning.

 

The authorities have placed three schools on lockdown as there are reports of a male walking outside with a gun in Conestoga. The following schools have been placed into hold-and-secure;

  • Pioneer Park Public School
  • Doon Public School
  • St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School

According to reports, there was an increase in police presence in the area of 200 Old Carriage Drive in Kitchener. Residents have been asked to stay inside at this time. Area roads and trails have been blocked off.
