CHP Seeks Suspect in Hit-and-Run Death of 24-Year-Old Nelva Beltran in Richgrove, California
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently seeking the individual responsible for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the tragic death of 24-year-old Nelva Beltran on November 28.
The collision occurred shortly before 6 am at the intersection of Avenue 8 and Road 208. Nelva and her mother had parked their vehicle and were crossing the road to commute to Famous Cold Storage in Richgrove when a man, believed to be in his 30s, struck Nelva and fled the scene, according to CHP reports.
CHP Officer Mike Salas provided details about the suspect’s vehicle, describing it as a 2007 to 2013 Chevy Silverado extended cab pickup, possibly gray or metallic blue based on physical evidence found at the crash site.
Tragically, Nelva passed away at the crash site and was laid to rest in her hometown of Porterville the following Wednesday. Although her family declined an on-camera interview, they shared with Action News that Nelva was a kind-hearted, vibrant individual who prioritized her family above all else.
CHP is actively pursuing the responsible party, aiming to achieve justice for Nelva and closure for her grieving family. Officer Salas expressed the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the appalling nature of leaving an innocent victim at the roadside after such an incident.
The crash site lacks a designated crosswalk, which might impact liability, but Officer Salas emphasized that fleeing the scene exacerbates the situation, adding additional charges for the individual responsible.
Nelva, a graduate of Porterville High School, was diligently working to support her mother. Her family has initiated a GoFundMe page to receive donations in this difficult period.
