Brooke Strattan missing: The Madison Police Department says the body of the missing 24-year-old woman has been found. Brooke Strattan was found dead after being reported missing following an altercation with her boyfriend James H Barnes.
Strattan’s body was recovered from a pond near Monroe St. and Lewis Ct., on the property of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2024. According to investigators, a nearby homeowner reported a body in the water that may have matched Brooke L. Strattan’s description. Authorities said a drone was deployed to help identify the body in the pond.
The man last seen with the deceased woman has been identified as James H Barnes. Police said Barnes was arrested on Thursday and booked in the Dane County Jail on unrelated charges. Barnes stated that detectives has questioned the individual in connection with the case. The man has now been charged with the disappearance and murder of Strattan. Police Chief Barnes requested surrounding people with doorbells or other cameras to check the tape and notify Madison Police if anything unusual was observed.
MPD announced earlier Thursday that it was looking for Strattan, 24, after she and an unidentified guy were last seen on Monday near Odana Road and Whitney Way. On Thursday, a News 3 Now team observed dive teams searching the seas surrounding Odana Hills Park.

The Madison Police Department is searching for 24-year-old Brooke Strattan. She was last seen Monday morning in the area of Odana Road and Whitney Way. Detectives and officers will be searching in the area of Odana Hills Park on Thursday afternoon. Their efforts may be visible to people driving by on the Beltline. Only law enforcement officers are needed for this search.
