Amber Alert: Father accused of abducting 7-year-old son now reportedly involved in northwest Iowa standoff

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 7-year-old boy from Greene County, Iowa, who authorities believe was abducted by his non-custodial father.

Officials issued the alert around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for Bryson Lewis Duong. The boy is described as an Asian male, 3-foot, 8 inches tall and 60 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Bryson was last seen wearing a black coat with black snow pants, a hat, and glasses.

They believe he was taken by his father, 34-year-old Brandon Duong, who is described as a 34-year-old Asian male, 5-foot-10, 135 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black coat and black pants.

They may be traveling in a black 2015 Toyota Tacoma with a license plate number of DFV 202.

If you see these plates or people matching Bryson and Brandon’s descriptions, call 911.

If you see Bryson or the vehicle, do not approach, the Iowa Department of Public Safety said in a news release. Please call 911 or your local law enforcement agency. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bryson or Brandon is asked to call the Jefferson Police Department at 515-386-2136.

Large police presence in Plymouth County is connected

A large police response in Plymouth County is connected to the abduction, according to multiple media reports in the area.

Sioux City TV stations KCAU and KTIV both are reporting that a possible standoff involving Brandon Duong is ongoing in the area of Sunset Avenue and 160th Street between Remsen and Marcus.

KTIV says the Iowa State Patrol has a negotiator on the scene and a tactical team has also been deployed.

Child was improperly taken from school grounds

According to a Facebook post by the Greene County Community School District, the boy was improperly taken from school grounds in Jefferson. Read the full post:

Today from 12:45pm to 1:20pm, our elementary and middle school were placed in a Secure the Perimeter after a student left the elementary playground and entered their parent’s vehicle and left school grounds. The proper procedure for removal of a student off the school grounds was not followed and law enforcement was immediately notified.

All other students were brought inside from recess and resumed normal activities in the school for the remainder of the day.
