Authorities stated that shortly before 1:00 p.m., Aaron Bushnell approached the embassy and began livestreaming on the video streaming platform Twitch. Officials from law enforcement believe that after initiating a livestream, the individual put down his phone, doused himself in accelerant, and ignited the flames. The individual stated that he once declared, “I will no longer be complicit in genocide.” A copy of the video has been obtained and reviewed by law enforcement officials, despite its subsequent removal from the platform.
Under the condition of anonymity, the individual who was not authorized to publicly disclose details of the ongoing investigation spoke to the Associated Press. The police did not provide any further information regarding the incident at that time.
