Kaleb Jaden Briggs, 24, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
He was born Dec. 28, 1999, in Moore County, son of Cindy Short Briggs and Dan Briggs.
Kaleb, affectionately known as “Mookie,” worked previously as an electrician. During his middle school and high school years, he was an avid football player, winning MVP awards for his talent. He played for the Richmond Raiders during high school. Mookie also played travel football during the summers with AUL. He never met a stranger and loved everyone, especially both of his grandmothers. When he loved, he loved hard. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Short and Danny Mac Briggs Sr.; and a brother, Danny Mac Briggs III.
Mookie is survived by his daughter, Gracelyn Briggs; parents, Cindy Short Briggs and Dan Briggs, both of Rockingham; grandmothers, Betty Yates Short and Julia Huggins Briggs, both of Rockingham; girlfriend, Mikala Locklear of Laurel Hill; brothers, Dana Mac Briggs of Texas and Brian Burgess of Rockingham; sisters, Destiny Briggs of Texas, Brittany Branch, Ashleigh Short and Kasey Briggs, all of Rockingham; aunts, Amy Cherry of Rockingham and Tawnja Callahan of Maxton; his beloved dogs, Sophia and Tank; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hamlet Church of God of Prophecy.
