Driver Nestor Lujan-Flores Arrested After Pedestrian’s Body Was Found in His Vehicle Following White Settlement Crash
Police authorities in White Settlement have apprehended a driver involved in a tragic Saturday night incident resulting in the discovery of a deceased pedestrian within the suspect’s vehicle.
Amidst the early hours of Sunday, law enforcement disseminated a news release via Facebook and Twitter regarding the crash, now under investigation by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
The sequence of events initiated with White Settlement police responding to a welfare check at a restaurant parking lot situated in the 8700 block of West Freeway, close to I-30, following a distress call at 11:13 p.m. Perturbingly, they encountered a Kia Forte exhibiting extensive damage to its front end, hood, and windshield, with the driver reportedly slumped over the steering wheel.
An officer’s discovery of a human body in the front passenger seat prompted immediate medical assistance, which tragically confirmed the individual’s demise.
Upon this distressing finding, the officer detained the driver, identified as 31-year-old Nestor Lujan-Flores, for questioning. According to the White Settlement Police Department (WSPD), Lujan-Flores asserted he believed he had hit an animal in Dallas and continued driving to the aforementioned parking lot, without notifying emergency services about the incident.
Law enforcement authorities from White Settlement reached out to various neighboring city officials, including Dallas, Dallas County, Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Fort Worth, in an attempt to ascertain the crash location. However, as of Sunday morning, no law enforcement agency reported any hit-and-run or pedestrian crash incidents within their jurisdictions.
Based on gathered evidence, investigators believe the individual in the passenger seat was the pedestrian struck by the vehicle, likely between Arlington and White Settlement. Detectives speculate that the impact of the collision was so forceful that the pedestrian was propelled into the vehicle, coming to rest in the front seat.
White Settlement police disclosed recovering a Flock Safety Alert indicating the suspect vehicle’s presence in the eastbound lanes of East Mayfield Road at New York Avenue in Arlington at 6:01 p.m.
Investigators estimate the vehicle’s arrival at the restaurant parking lot occurred between 8 and 9 p.m., preceding the initial distress call received after 11 p.m.
Authorities continue their efforts to ascertain the precise location of the crash. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity following notification of the person’s next of kin.
Lujan-Flores potentially faces criminal charges pending review by the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
