A Briton who remains missing after a tourist yacht sank in the Red Sea off the Egyptian coast has been identified as Tarig Sinada, a 49-year-old former scuba instructor from Devon. Mr. Sinada was on a reef safari holiday when the vessel, named Sea Story, sank at around 5:30 a.m. local time on Monday. The yacht was carrying 44 people, including 31 tourists and 13 crew members, on a multi-day diving trip when it was hit by a large wave, causing it to capsize within minutes, as reported by Egyptian authorities.
Among the 31 tourists were four Britons, two of whom, Colin Sharratt, 65, and his partner, Sally Jones, 58, survived the ordeal. Despite their survival, the tragedy claimed the lives of four people whose bodies were found the following day. As of Thursday, it was confirmed that Mr. Sinada was still missing and presumed drowned.
Mr. Sinada, who lived in Newton Abbot near Devon, was an IT consultant and astrophysics graduate from Imperial College. He had diverse interests, including mountain climbing and snowboarding, and had previously worked as a scuba instructor. His employers expressed their hope for his safe return, stating, “We hope for his safe return, along with all other passengers.”
One of the survivors, 23-year-old Youssef Al-Faramawy, recounted his harrowing experience to the Daily Mail. He described hearing screams as the boat capsized on its right side, and the water pressure prevented them from opening the door.
