Goldsboro, NC (GDN) – Authorities are currently investigating a breaking and entering incident that occurred at a residence in Northern Wayne County on December 29, 2023. The incident was reported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division at approximately 9:40 p.m. According to the press release, the caller also informed Wayne County 911 that an unresponsive male, who was known to the caller, was found inside the residence with visible signs of bleeding.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a 39-year-old man identified as Robert Lee Mitchell. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Wayne County EMS promptly responded and, after examining the victim, pronounced him deceased.
