A 23-year-old man named Hassan Jhangur has been charged with the murder of Chris Marriott, who died after being hit by a car in Sheffield on Wednesday. Jhangur was arrested by South Yorkshire police, who announced the charges on Friday.
According to authorities, 46-year-old Marriott was out walking with his two young sons in the Burngreave area when the incident occurred. He had stopped to help an unconscious woman who was lying in the street after an apparent altercation when he and several other good Samaritans were hit by a car.
Marriott suffered fatal injuries and an off-duty midwife was also hurt. The woman Marriott tried to assist remains hospitalized in critical condition.

In a statement, police said Jhangur has been charged with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder. He remains in custody and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Marriott’s grieving family issued a statement praising his compassion and describing his death as “tragic and unfathomable.”
“Chris was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, uncle – and friend to many. He devoted much of his life to helping others. The circumstances of his death, although tragic and unfathomable to us his family, show the sort of man he was to go to help rather than to turn away,” they said.
