Ann Arbor Doctor Identified in Recent Bicycle Accident
Dr. Mark Oberdoerster, a 68-year-old physician from Ann Arbor, has been identified as the man who tragically lost his life in a bicycle accident on Saturday, August 24, in Ann Arbor Township, according to Lt. Eugene Rush of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and details surrounding the incident have not yet been fully disclosed.
Mark Oberdoerster grew up in South Euclid, Ohio, as the eldest of three brothers. He was raised in a devout Catholic family and served as an altar boy at St. Margaret Mary Elementary School. Mark attended Cathedral Latin High School and later graduated from Hawkin School on an athletic scholarship in 1974. He continued his wrestling career at the University of Cincinnati before pursuing medical studies at the Medical College of Ohio, now known as the University of Toledo Medical School, where he earned his degree in 1982. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Oberdoerster dedicated over 35 years to practicing medicine in the Ann Arbor and Canton areas. He had a deep passion for mentoring aspiring medical professionals, both in hospital environments and in private practice. He was a founding member of Partners in Internal Medicine (PIIM) and took great pride in the relationships he built with his patients, many of whom became close friends. Serving his community was the highest honor of his life, and he did so with humility, never seeking recognition or the spotlight.
