Rosemary Burns, the beloved wife of Celtic legend Tommy Burns sadly passed away whilst returning from holiday in Tenerife. She was confirmed through a social media publication that read “Sad news coming through that Rosemary Burns, wife of the legend Tommy, sadly passed away while on her way home from Spain. Sending love and strength to all Rosemary’s family and friends, the comfort being Rosemary and Tommy will now be reunited”

Thomas Burns and Rosemary Burns were the beloved parents of Jenna and Emma Burns. Rosemary met her husband in the Terminal 1 disco in St Enoch Square, Glasgow, many years ago, when they were both just 17. Burns, 51, passed away from melanoma on May 15, 2008. Rosemary was at the forefront of the campaign to raise money for a proposed cancer research lab in Tommy’s name.
Who was Tommy Burns?
Scottish-born Thomas Burns was a manager and professional football player. His lengthy tenure with Celtic, where he served as a player, manager, and coach, is what made him most famous. Burns, a midfielder by trade, spent fifteen years at Celtic, winning six Scottish League titles, five Scottish Cups, and one Scottish League Cup. In addition, he represented Scotland internationally, earning eight caps from 1981 to 1988. Kilmarnock was where he ended his playing career and started his managerial career.
In 1994, he took over as manager of Celtic once more, and in 1995, the team won its first trophy in six years—the Scottish Cup. He managed Reading from 1998 to 1999 after being fired by Celtic in 1997. After joining Celtic again in 2000, Burns served as first team coach, head of youth development, and assistant manager. From 2002 until 2007, he also served as Scotland’s assistant manager.
