Anthony Hinton III, widely known by friends and family as “Manman,” and Jayne Lewtas died on Wednesday after losing control of their vehicle on Ritchie Highway and colliding with a tree. Hinton was 18 years old while Lewtas was 17 years old. Northern District officers on patrol with the Anne Arundel County Police Department discovered the collision site at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release.
According to authorities, Hinton’s 2011 Infinity G37 drove off the road, going over a high median and crossed opposing travel lanes before striking with a tree. Hinton was pronounced dead at the scene, and paramedics sent a Jayne Lewtas, a passenger to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

Manman was hailed by Hinton’s family as “the epitome of what you would want in a son”; he was straightforward yet courteous, a beloved trendsetter, and, according to his coaches, the kind of guy you wanted to be friends with and the one who everyone gravitated toward. After playing just one season of high school football at Glen Burnie, 6-foot-9 Hinton had just completed his first year as a defensive lineman at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. Hinton, a seasoned member of the Gophers’ football and basketball teams, graduated in 2023.
Hinton spent the summers working at the coach’s basketball camps for kids, directing participants through drills and workouts. When the season was in full flow, Hinton’s understanding of the game made Rudd feel like he had “an extra coach on the floor.” Though the team did not advance far in the playoffs in either of Hinton’s two seasons as a varsity basketball player, Rudd recalled Hinton as a clutch player in pressure-filled situations. In Hinton’s final basketball game of high school, the Gophers traveled to Howard County to play Reservoir. Hinton finished with a combined record of 30-17.
