Former Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mohamad Maidin Packer Mohd, passed away from a heart attack at 6:50 pm on June 24, at the age of 66. “The ambulance arrived at about 7:05 pm and took him to Changi General Hospital,” his brother Abdul Rahim informed Berita Harian. “But at 8:35 pm, we received news that he had died.”
Mr Maidin’s funeral is scheduled to take place at his residence at Block 333 Tampines Street 33 on June 25. Mr. Maidin, who had served as a Member of Parliament for Aljunied and Marine Parade GRCs, was also notable for his prior role as an editor at a Malay daily.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mohamad Maliki Osman, expressed his condolences and paid tribute to Mr Maidin in a Facebook post, reflecting on his significant contributions to the nation.
“Mr Maidin made invaluable contributions to the Malay/Muslim community of Singapore throughout his distinguished career,” he wrote. “He championed the interests of the Malay/Muslim community and worked tirelessly to improve the performance and well-being of the community.”
“Saddened by the passing of Enc Maidin Packer, former Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore as well as former MP of Aljunied and Marine Parade GRCs yesterday evening. May God grant him His everlasting mercy and love as well as bring comfort and strength to the family in this grieving moments. A good man with a good heart, gone too soon.
