According to the New York State Police, a male 15-year-old was discovered dead on Friday after drowning while swimming in the Genesee River close to the Town of Caneadea. After conducting an investigation, troopers were called to the Genesee River at the intersection of State Route 19 and Oramel Hill Road at around 8 p.m. on Thursday. It was discovered that two young people were swimming in the river when one of them was carried away by the current and did not emerge, according to the NYSP. The teenager was eventually found dead about 11:30 a.m. on Friday after search and rescue operations got underway, according to the police. The victim’s identity won’t be made public until his family has been informed. There is still an investigation going into the drowning.
