A Cape Coral man is dead and his wife is critically injured after an attempted murder-suicide on Sunday.
Joseph Johnson, 88, shot his wife multiple times and then himself in an attempt to fulfill a so-called pact to end their lives together.
Johnson died but his wife, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, survived and is currently in hospital in critical condition.
Cape Coral police were called to a home on SW 4th Court in Cape Coral at around 7:56 p.m.
On the scene, they found a woman with serious, multiple gunshot wounds.
She was given life-saving emergency care and then transported to the hospital.
They also found a man, Johnson, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A suicide note found in the house by Johnson claimed they wanted to end their lives together.
Cape Coral police say it is still unclear if the shooting was consensual as the note claims.
Police say the victim is still in the hospital with serious injuries and that she was shot multiple times.
CCPD has not shared the identity of the victim at this point.
