Sharon Rowe, the founder and CEO of Eco-Bags Products, Inc. has passed away unexpectedly. Sharon has been recognized as a thought leader in social innovation, sustainable production, and responsible manufacturing since 1989. As someone who believes that business can be a force for good and a currency for ideas that change culture, she frequently makes lectures on how to build profitable businesses that are aligned with their mission and values.
She has presented at Sing-Sing Prison, Yale University, the Nairobi Center for Innovation in Kenya, and the Social Venture Institute conference in the Hudson Valley. Her speaking engagements are broad, taking her to a variety of locations. She has appeared in Time Magazine, Glamour Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine, National Public Radio – Air America, and the documentary “BagIt,” which earned an award. Furthermore, ECOBAGS® were featured on Oprah’s first Earth Day Show, which was dedicated to the subject.
Sharon has received a number of awards, including the National Enterprising Woman Award in 2012, the CBS Radio Women’s Achievement Award, the Westchester Business Council Entrepreneur of the Year award, the 914Inc Westchester Magazine’s Most Accomplished Women award, the Lilian Vernon Award from the Women’s Enterprise Development Center, and the Most Valuable Player award from The Westchester Collaborative Theatre.
Sharon previously served on the board of directors for The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and is now on the board of directors for Westchester Collaborative Theatre. She is also an active member of the Women’s Presidents Organization and the Social Venture Network. Eco-Bags Products received BCorporation certification.
Sharon lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband, Blake, who is a musician and a teacher. Her two adult children, Eva and Julian, are currently living in a separate state to pursue their interests. Eva, a civil engineer, is interested in environmentally friendly design. Julian, a cartoonist who has appeared in The New Yorker magazine, is one of the book’s contributors. Eco-Bags Products, Inc., the world’s first reusable bag brand, has received the “Best for the World” award from Bcorporation for its social and environmental commitments and standards
