In the news of his passing, Larry Lloyd, a former defender for Bristol Rovers FC, passed away at the age of 75. The news of his passing has caused everyone affiliated with the club to feel a great feeling of loss. On October 6, 1948, Larry was born in Bristol, and in July of 1967, he began his professional career with Rovers. Larry’s birthplace was Bristol. He became the 393rd player to ever represent the club in the league when he made his debut on August 10, 1968, in a match against Watford at Eastville.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and he became the first player to ever do so. He became one of the 393rd players in the history of the game to achieve this feat as a result of his effort. He was a regular member of the Rovers’ Second Division team for a length of time that was less than a year until Bill Shankly signed him for Liverpool in April of 1969. This was due to the fact that he played the position of center defender for the Rovers. At that point in time, he had only made 43 appearances for the squad in the league before that point in time. His first of four England caps was awarded to him during the match against Wales that took place in May of 1971.
This match was the first of his four caps. Due to the fact that the match ended in a draw, there was no victory for either team. Not only was he a member of the team that fought Arsenal in the FA Cup Final in 1971, but he was also a member of the club that won the First Division championship in 1972/73. Both of these accomplishments occurred during his time with the club. The period of time that he spent at Anfield was responsible for both of these achievements. Additionally, Liverpool was successful in the final of the 1973 UEFA Cup, which led to the conclusion that the team had been given a European trophy.
This was the case because Liverpool had won the tournament. Borussia Monchengladbach was one of the teams that they were successful in defeating throughout the season. After scoring four goals in each of his 150 league matches for Liverpool, he made the move to Coventry City in August of 1974. This was after he had played for Liverpool for exactly 150 matches. On the other side, after only fifty appearances in the league, he was once again on the move, this time to Nottingham Forest, where he was initially signed by Brian Clough on loan. This was his second move in only fifty league games.
The transfer was made permanent in November of 1976, and Larry went on to have a fantastic season with them, culminating in the First Division championship in 1977/78. Additionally, the move was declared permanent. He also won the League Cup with them in 1978 and 1979, and he capped it all off with a triumph in the European Cup, which also took place in 1979, when Forest defeated Malmo in Munich while he was playing for them. This success was the crowning achievement during his time with them. Forest was able to successfully defend their championship in the European Cup the next year, which resulted in the addition of another medal to their collection of trophies and awards. They prevailed over Hamburg in the championship match, which concluded in Madrid. The contest was played in Madrid.
