Active Shooter in NorthEast Charlotte: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has reported that many law enforcement officers were shot in east Charlotte on Monday. It has been advised that the general public refrain from approaching the scene at Galway Drive, near Julian Underwood Park. The shooting took place near the junction of The Plaza and Milton Road. The severity of their injuries was not released by authorities. Several streets in the vicinity are partially closed as officials facilitate the passage of ambulances en route to local hospitals.
Some of the roadways affected are Interstate 77 northbound at I-277 (John Belk Freeway) and Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74) inbound. The CMPD SWAT unit is currently there at the location and actively addressing the situation. The mass casualty unit of the MEDIC organization was observed en route to the location of the gunshot incident. The shooting incident took place during an investigation conducted by the United States Marshals Task Force, which consists of officers from various law enforcement agencies.
