LAMARTINE – A tragic two-vehicle collision on U.S. 151 at County TC on Saturday evening claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman from Brandon. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the crash around 5:45 p.m. on November 30th. Upon arrival, deputies, along with the Town of Lamartine Fire Department and Lamartine First Responders, discovered that an eastbound vehicle on County TC had failed to yield to a southbound vehicle on U.S. 151, resulting in a fatal crash.
The eastbound vehicle was driven by the Brandon woman, who unfortunately was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision forced both vehicles into the median. Meanwhile, the southbound vehicle was driven by a 41-year-old man from Fond du Lac, who was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries. He was later released from the scene. The vehicle carried four other occupants, all of whom were wearing seatbelts and sustained only minor injuries. They were evaluated and subsequently released at the scene.
The sheriff’s office indicated that the incident was caused by the failure to stop at a stop sign and the failure to yield to cross traffic. Consequently, U.S. 151 southbound at County TC remained closed for approximately four hours to facilitate emergency response operations and an investigation conducted by the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.
The sheriff’s office has not released the names of those involved in the crash due to the ongoing investigation. This tragic event underscores the importance of adhering to traffic rules and the critical role of seatbelt use in preventing fatalities and injuries.
